Advanced Open Water x Project Aware

Are you ready to gain greater knowledge about the underwater world? Fine tune your diving skills? Become more confident in the water? The Advanced Open Water x Project Aware course will help you develop your diving skills and teach you about the unique ecosystems our ocean holds around the world.

Why Train With Us?

While we understand you have many options when choosing instructors and shops to get certified through, we strive to give our students the best experience we can provide.

  • Class Limit of 4 Students Per Class (Ensures a safer and more intimate experience with instructional staff.)
  • Environmentally Friendly Rental Equipment (Our rental gear has been built from the ground up with ensuring we minimize our footprint as much as possible.)
  • Highly Trained Staff (The instructors are hand picked and trained by our Training Director, they also routinely go through evaluations and trainings.)
  • Living Wages (We deviate from the industry standard and pay our instructors a living wage. They take care of us so we take care of them.)
  • We Support Marine Conservation (A portion of the shop's proceeds help fund marine conservation efforts around the world.)

Requirements

To enroll in the Advanced Open Water x Project Aware course, you need to have at least an open water level certification from any recognized training agency. You must have adequate swimming skills (swim 200 yards without stopping) and need to be in good physical health.

What's Involved?

Your journey to learning more about why our ocean is an amazing place while further developing your diving skills starts by filling our required paperwork, getting any necessary equipment, and completing homework prior to the first night of class. This course is split into two sections:

  • The first section is the classroom session. During the classroom session, the instructor will cover the schedule for the course, logistics, and any other questions. The instructor will go over some basic diving skills that will be required to complete the required dives, after which the instructor will give a presentation about marine ecosystems, how marine environments work, and some interesting facts about our local ecosystems.
  • During the second session you will complete 5 dives over two days. You will complete a navigation and deep dive, with the other three dives being determined by you, your fellow divers, and the instructor. The other dives can include fish identification, search and recovery, photography and other fun and educational dives. Diving will be from shore at one of the many sites in Southern California. At the end of the course, if all requirements have been met, students will be certified to dive to 30m/100ft. If the student is 12-14 they will be certified to dive to a maximum depth of 21m/70ft.
