Do you know what's involved?

Your journey to learning how to handle stressful situations while developing your diving skills starts by filling out required paperwork, getting any necessary equipment, and completing homework before the first night of class. This course is split into two sections:

  • The first section is the classroom session. The instructor will cover the course schedule, logistics, and any other questions during the classroom session. The instructor will then go over some basic self-rescue skills required to complete the required dives, after which the instructor will give a presentation about emergency oxygen equipment and its use.
  • During the second session, you will complete one pool and one ocean dive over two days. You will complete self-rescue skills, underwater and surface recovery tasks, practice giving rescue breaths to a diver while in the water, and respond to a stressed patient. One dive will be done from shore at one of the many sites in Southern California, and you will practice all the skills from the pool in the ocean in a search and rescue scenario. At the end of the course, if all requirements have been met, students will be certified to administer emergency oxygen, provide basic life-saving first aid, and understand how to respond to stressful situations while diving.
