Course Prerequisites and Structure

  • Age Requirement: Open to anyone aged 12 or older.
  • Diving Certification Needed: You should be an Open Water Diver or equivalent from any recognized agency.
  • Physical Fitness: Good health and adequate swimming skills are necessary.

 

Course Experience

  1. Classroom Session: Start with an informative classroom session where you'll learn the importance of DSMBs, types of marker buoys, and how to manage them with reels.
  2. Practical Ocean Training: Apply what you've learned with two ocean dives at La Jolla Shores. Here, you'll practice deploying the DSMB from different positions, managing the reel and line, and using the DSMB line for safety stops.

 

After Completing the Course

You'll have essential safety skills and a pathway to enhance further your diving capabilities with courses like Advanced Open Water Diver and Night Diver. The skills learned here also apply to various diving specialties, contributing to the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating.
